Due to the situation created by COVID-19, the Ribeira Sacra International Guitar Festival begins its journey in 2021 (as this year’s festival cannot take place) with the aim of being one of the reference festivals in the guitar world. Big stars, young stars, early music performers, duets and quartets; they will meet annually in the Ribeira Sacra to give concerts and teach masterclasses.
We invite you to join us on this beautiful journey that will begin in June 2021 in Monforte de Lemos and enjoy the magic of the Ribeira Sacra.
The Ribeira Sacra could be defined as one of inland Galicia’s best-kept secrets. This area is formed of 21 municipalities in the south of Lugo province and the north of Ourense province, bound together by the rivers Miño, Sil and Cabe.
The Ribeira Sacra offers a great variety of fun and culinary experiences, alongside a wide range of top-quality local products which hold trademarks guaranteeing their origin.
Steep slopes and thick forests attracted monastic communities to the Ribeira Sacra, from the earliest days of Christianity, seeking spiritual retreat and ascetic life. They introduced new growing and winemaking techniques and started a massive expansion of monastic civilisation along the banks of the Sil and Miño rivers, leaving traces to this day.
The vineyards and winemaking were extended under the protection of the monasteries and the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago, gaining vital importance.
Today, Ribeira Sacra draws thousands of visitor for its heritage, its gastronomy and its superb wines in the search for the taste of a land.
