Pablo Menéndez was born in 1992 in Asturias, Spain. From an early age, music draws his attention, and he begins his musical training in his native Asturias. Years later, he moved to San Sebastián to study at the Higher Music Center of the Basque Country (Musikene), where he would obtain his Higher Degree in Music under the tutelage of the prestigious guitarist Marco Socías, finishing his studies with the highest marks.
Since 2014, he has studied with Maestro Carlo Marchione at the Maastricht Conservatory (Netherlands), where he obtained his Master’s degree, receiving the qualification of “cum laude” in 2016. Later, he continued studying with Zoran Dukic, Pablo Márquez, Paolo Pegoraro, Lorenzo Micheli, Judicael Perroy, Antonio Duro and Francisco Bernier, in the context of the Master of Guitar in Seville.
Apart from his academic training, he participates in a multitude of acting courses, and acquires complementary training in historical interpretation, contemporary music, new musical languages and improvisation.
Currently, he continues to train in orchestra and choir conducting, under the tutelage of Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado, at the Opus 23 Academy in Madrid.
He has been awarded in numerous interpretation competitions both nationally and internationally, such as “Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga” in Bilbao (Spain), “Villa de Zarautz” Competition (Spain), Twents Gitaaar Festival (Netherlands) or Gevelsberg Guitar Competition (Germany).
As a soloist, Pablo has given concerts throughout Europe in recent years, in countries such as Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sweden … He has also been part of the program of young artists from the Association of Interpreters of Spain (AIE), and is currently an artist EuroStrings, a program that brings together the most talented young guitarists in Europe.
In addition, he has developed the facets of chamber and orchestral musician, forming part of very diverse groups, among which his participation in the Young National Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) stands out during the 2014/15 season.
In constant evolution, in October 2020 Pablo made his debut at the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna (Austria), and will soon perform in other halls of global prestige such as Carnegie Hall in New York (United States), scheduled for July 2021.
Currently, Pablo combines his concert activity with teaching work as a teacher at the “Rafael Orozco” Superior Conservatory of Music in Córdoba (Spain).
The musical qualities of the classical guitarist Álvaro Toscano has been endorsed by his winning of more than 15 international awards, among which are First Prize at: 96th Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales of Spain and Festival International de Guitarra de Guimarães in Portugal. He is also proud to have won several ‘Audience’ prizes that reflect his immense communication skills as a musician.
Apart from his solo work, Álvaro Toscano was the soloist with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra performing music by Enrique Baños. In ensemble, he has also performed with the F.I.P Guadalquivir Ensemble and the Leonor Quartet, among others, and premièred Proserpina and Brumas del Guadalquivir by Antonio Blanco Tejero at the Teatro Góngora in Cordoba.
Álvaro Toscano has offered more than 70 recitals throughout Europe, highlights include his participation in the Szeged International Guitar Festival in Hungary, International Festival of Guitar José Tomás Villa de Petrer, Lope de Vega Theater in Seville and International Guitar Festival ‘Ciudad de Coria’, in Cáceres.
He also offers recitals in unusual venues such as ‘Sofar Sounds’, trying to bring classical music closer to all kinds of public. His 2021 programme, titled ‘The Cosmic Guitar’, comprises music based on ethereal, spatial and natural themes by Frederic Mompou, Antonio Blanco Tejero, Vicente Asencio and Marco Smaili.
